We all find ourselves in a slump from time to time, myself included. I feel better when I take care of my body with nourishing foods, and exercise, but sometimes one skipped workout turns into 7 and you find yourself doing less meal planning, and more picking up takeout. It can be overwhelming to get back into the swing of things, but here are some ways to refuel your fire, and get back on the wagon!
Self Assessment
This doesn’t necessarily mean stepping on the scale, but if you are driven by numbers, then by all means, hop on and do your thing. Taking a self-assessment can be as easy as doing a mental scan of your body. Are your eyes bright? Is your skin clear? How is your digestion? How well are you sleeping at night? For me, if my face is breaking out, I know I need to drink more water. If my gums or inside my eyelids are pale, I know I need more iron-rich foods in my diet.
Back to Basics
For me, my journey to fitness began in the pool, swimming and taking aqua classes, and taking Zumba and yoga classes. When I need a boost, and want to do something I know I will enjoy, I find a Zumba class, or even an Aqua Zumba class. Like most things in life, our interests change and you might not be doing the same activities now that you were doing a few years ago. Revisiting activities you once enjoyed can reignite your fire.
Retail Therapy
Treating yourself to a new water bottle, yoga mat, workout outfit, or new sneakers is a great motivator. It doesn’t have to be expensive, check out stores like T.J. Maxx or Marshalls for great deals on fitness essentials, I just got a gorgeous new yoga mat for less than $15!
Make a Vision Board
Break out the old magazines and get crafty! Cut out images and words that motivate you, and are centered around your personal goals. Creating a collage is a fun way to create a visual reminder for yourself.
Recipe Research
Check out Pinterest or pick up a new cookbook to introduce some new recipes to your rotation. One of my favorites right now is this acai bowl! Check out this list of FREE cookbooks for great ideas too!
Remember your WHY
Think back to why you started exercising, and eating well to begin with. To improve your health? To lose weight? To gain self confidence? Loving your body and taking care of yourself is SO important, no matter where you are in terms of reaching your goals. As your best advocate, you are worthy of positive health care at any size.
We all fall down, love yourself enough to get back up!
